In April I attended a seminar run by the Intellectual Property Office, about IP protection here at the Coventry University Technology Park. I was told during the reception that the BBC were recording interviews for a radio program and asked, by a client, if I would be willing to be interviewed. I was more than happy to oblige, and found my self later having to leave the presentation part way through to give an interview with Peter Day.
The interview covered a number of factors involving IP protection for the software industry, copyright, design rights and patents; especially the lack of the right to paten software in the UK. I also commented on the risks of not having adequate protection in place and cited our recent troubles where we had a product idea taken from us, and released to market by a competitor as a result of not having suitable safeguards in place.
Last night part of the interview was broadcast as part of Radio 4’s In Business program. Thanks to a text message I found out I was on the radio just moments before the program ran. The only part of the interview aired was the segment about our cautionary tale, but any exposure is great.
The BBC website now has a link to my companies site, which has already led to over 250 new visitors to the site, according to Google analytics.
If you are interested in hearing me then you can download my section of the program here, or alternatively you can download the entire program either from the BBC site or here.
